Mapping the Efficacy of Artificial Intelligence-based Online Proctored Examination (OPE) in Higher Education during COVID-19: Evidence from Assam, India

The COVID-19-induced lockdown forced education institutes to use different synchronous and asynchronous assessment techniques. present study is a case investigation of the Artificial Intelligence-based Online Proctored Examination (OPE) adopted by Nowgong College (Autonomous), Assam, India, during COVID-19 pandemic. It follows hybrid approach understand OPE mechanisms; consider challenges faced therein; assess its efficacy based on students’ perception satisfaction; finally, ascertain perceived issues concerns students. Information from multiple sources was gathered including semi-structured interview with representatives exam controlling body, document analysis, observation survey 209 randomly selected students; parameters OPE, constructed as per attributes Rogers’ Diffusion Innovation Theory (DOI), were considered. qualitative data analysed thematically, while quantitative according frequency, percentage, mean, sd one sample t-test. results revealed that additional costs, lack compatible devices, low bandwidth in rural areas, technical inability students are major implementing successfully. Students’ found be significantly positive sampled satisfied their overall experiences OPE. However, negative reluctant about future use, they experienced various financial issues, concerned environmental psychological aspects. Thus, insights this yield significant implications for stakeholders, which could assist ensuring robust scalable future.
